Jock Gillespie's Vietnam helicopters diorama

Yet Another Vietnam War Diorama!

Whilst I love the Roman and Hastings eras I did not think I would so passionate about the Vietnam War. I blame Peter Nathan Toy Soldiers and Andy Nielsen when they showed me the Centurion tank.

Since the Long Tan diorama, and COVID interference, I finally made time to build another Vietnam diorama with Bell Huey helicopters with K&C Special Forces figures, for something different in the bigger scale. I purchased a 1/32 REVELL Bell Huey UH1D two years ago and finally built it with some detail, with improved pilots figures from France, self-printed instrument panel, modified armament and RAAF decals converting the kit into an Australian Bushranger. I had not built a plane kit since I was 16. Whilst the scale is smaller to 1/30 I would use it as a flying model in the background. While building this kit The Collectors Showcase reissued some Huey helicopters, and I ordered the slick through Sven. Very lucky to get this!

The terrain was made using coloured sculpta mould on XPS foam board cut to shape with a wire foam cutter. Various ground treatments was applied using various sizes of flock, applied with a flock applicator, some homemade trees and leaf litter with Last Post Miniatures plants and trees with my own touches. I purchased clear acrylic rod to mount the REVELL helicopter in the background. I placed the helicopters and only used five of the K&C Vietnam Special Forces figures, an NVA prisoner, Australian soldier from a Land Rover set, and a Collectors Showcase gunner. I had a background photo that ordered moons ago for another dio, and used that for this one. As you can see, it turned out OKAY! Hope you enjoy the photos.
